मुंबई, दि. 20 : राज्यपाल रमेश बैस यांनी शुक्रवारी (दि. 20) शतकी परंपरा असलेल्या शिवाजी पार्क येथील बंगाल क्लबतर्फे आयोजित दुर्गा पूजा मंडळाला भेट देऊन देवीची पूजा केली.
यावेळी क्लबचे मानद सल्लागार जॉय चक्रवर्ती, अध्यक्ष दिलीप दास, सचिव मृणाल पुरकायस्थ व बंगाली भाषिक मोठ्या संख्येने उपस्थित होते.
बंगाली समाजाने राज्याला उत्तम डॉक्टर, उत्तम शिक्षक, उत्तम संगीतकार, गायक, खेळाडू आणि विचारवंत दिले आहेत. मुंबई आणि राज्याच्या विकासात बंगाली भाषिक लोकांचे योगदान मोठे आहे, असे राज्यपालांनी यावेळी सांगितले. सामाजिक सलोखा आणि बंधुभाव राखण्यासाठी दुर्गा पूजेसारखे सण महत्त्वाचे आहेत. विविध धर्म व पंथाच्या लोकांना निमंत्रित करून दुर्गोत्सव सर्वसमावेशक करण्याचा प्रयत्न केला पाहिजे, असे राज्यपालांनी यावेळी सांगितले. बंगाल क्लब कडे खेळाच्या सुविधा आहेत. या क्लबच्या माध्यमातून देशासाठी उत्कृष्ट खेळाडू निर्माण व्हावे अशी अपेक्षा राज्यपालांनी यावेळी व्यक्त केली.
बंगाल क्लबची स्थापन १९२२ साली करण्यात आली तर येथील दुर्गा पूजा १९३५ पासून सुरु असल्याची माहिती यावेळी आयोजकांनी दिली.

Maharashtra Governor visits Centurion Bengal Club Durga Puja
Mumbai 20: Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais today visited the Durga Puja organized by the Century old Bengal Club at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Friday (20 Oct).
Joy Chakraborty, Honorary Advisor of Bengal Club, Dilip Das, President, Mrinal Purkayastha, Secretary and a large number of people were present.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said the Bengali community has given Maharashtra great doctors, teachers, musicians, singers, athletes and intellectuals. He said that the contribution of Bengali speaking people to the progress and development of Mumbai and Maharashtra is of a high order.
The Governor said that festivals like Durga Puja play an important role in maintaining social harmony and brotherhood. He said efforts should be made to make Durgotsav inclusive by inviting people from various religions and sects. The Governor said, Bengal Club has good infrastructure for sports and games. He expressed the hope that the Club will produce excellent sportspersons for the country in the years to come.
According to the organizers, the Bengal Club was founded in 1922 while Durga Puja was started in 1935.
